What is Japanese Massage

Japanese Massage is a hands-on therapeutic full body treatment performed through light clothing. It is rooted in the same principles as acupuncture – instead of needles it works acupressure points by using the thumbs and hands, joint rotations, and stretches.

At the heart of the Japanese Massage is an authentic connection of Ki energy between giver and receiver, therapist and client. Ki, or Qi in Chinese, is our basic life energy. Observing blockages and deficiencies in Ki energy pathways, or meridians, allows the therapist to clear and revitalize affected areas in the body by working corresponding acupressure points. When Ki energy is flowing freely, a natural movement towards balance and health can begin using the body’s inherent capacity for self-regulation and healing.japanesemassage

Physical manipulation and Ki flow stimulate blood circulation and lymphatic flow in our body, naturally lowering blood pressure, boosting your immune system and body functions. Japanese Massage is a deeply relaxing treatment, it reduces stress and calms our nervous system, it soothes away aches and pains, and revives flagging energy.

A traditional Japanese Massage session takes place on a comfortable futon at floor level. Received through loose comfortable clothing (cotton tracksuit bottoms, leggings or similar), and sometimes soft blankets, a treatment takes about an hour. Extra time will be needed on the first visit so that a detailed case history can be taken.
